This policy explains how the operator of Map_MarkUp (we, us or our) collects, uses, shares and protects personal information when you use map-markup.com and the Map_MarkUp service.
Information we collect
- Account information: your username, password hash, account creation date and account or project roles.
- Project activity: projects and teams you join, street statuses, notes, chat messages, author names, timestamps and changes made through the service.
- Location information: latitude, longitude, accuracy and update time when you choose to share your location. Browser permission is required. Do not enable location sharing if you do not want authorised project members to see it.
- Technical information: session cookies, browser local storage, server logs and information needed to operate, secure and troubleshoot the service.
- Communications: information you send when contacting us for support, feedback or a complaint.
How we use information
We use information to create and secure accounts; provide shared maps, projects, teams, notes, chat, statistics and location features; synchronise changes; administer access; respond to support requests; prevent misuse; diagnose faults; and comply with legal obligations.
Who can see your information
Your username and attributed project activity may be visible to members of the relevant project. Notes and chat messages are shared with their intended project or team audience. Project administrators can manage membership, roles and project data. Location information is made available to authorised members of the relevant project through the team tracking features.
Anyone with a valid project invitation link, QR code or project key may be able to request access. Take care when sharing these credentials.
Service providers and overseas disclosure
We may use hosting, infrastructure and support providers to operate the service. Those providers may process information on our behalf. Contact us for current information about provider locations and whether personal information is likely to be disclosed outside Australia.
Cookies and local storage
We use an essential session cookie to keep you signed in. The service also uses browser local storage for current account and project state and as a temporary fallback when server synchronisation is unavailable. These technologies are needed for core service functions rather than advertising.
Storage, security and retention
We take reasonable technical and organisational steps to protect information. No online system is completely secure. We retain information for as long as needed to provide the service, maintain security and records, resolve disputes, and comply with law. Project activity may remain until an administrator deletes the relevant data or project. Account deletion removes the account and associated records as implemented by the service, subject to any information we must lawfully retain.
Your choices and rights
You can decline or stop browser location permission, sign out, update available account details, and request account deletion through the Account page. You may contact us to request access to or correction of your personal information or to ask how it is handled. Some shared records may need to be retained or de-identified to preserve project history, security or legal records.
Children
Map_MarkUp is not directed to children. A child should not create an account or share location information without permission and supervision from a parent or legal guardian. Contact us if you believe a child has provided personal information inappropriately.
Changes and complaints
